Abstract:Objective:To investigate the effects of digoxin on morphine induced behavioral sensitization.Methods:Locomotor activity was measured every 15 min for 2 hours after administration with digoxin in mice.The animals were rendered sensitization to morphine via treatment with morphine(10 mg ·kg-1,ip) for 5 days.After cessation of drugs for 7 days,all animals were challenged with morphine(10 mg ·kg-1,ip) on 12th day.Results:Digoxin dose-dependently inhibited both locomotor activity in mice and hyperlocomotion induced by acute morphine.Similar inhibition was also seen both in the development and the expression of morphine-induced behavioral sensitization.Conclusion:Digoxin inhibits both in the development and the expression of morphine-induced behavioral sensitization in mice.And the inhibitory effects of digoxin on dopamine release in brain may account for this.These findings indicate that digoxin may have the interferential potential to psychological dependence on morphine,and Na+,K+/ATPase might serve as a drug target in morphine addiction.
