Abstract: | Pharmacodynamic benefits of disulfiram in the treatment of alcoholism have yet to be clearly demonstrated. Nevertheless, research does suggest that disulfiram may well have positive effects on drinking if medicational compliance procedures are employed. This paper reviews research on four strategies for enhancing disulfiram compliance: implants, incentives, contracts, and patient information. Generalizations about the strategies are drawn and needs for future research are briefly addressed. |
