Abstract:Torticollis was observed in the marmoset following interruption of the ascending nigrostriatal dopaminergic pathway by injection of the specific catecholamine neurotoxin, 6-hydroxydopamine. It was possible to either accentuate or reverse the torticollis by manipulation of the relative dopamine activity of the two striata. The relationship between these findings and the etiology of torticollis in the primate is discussed.
