Application of Spiral CT and its Post-processing Techniques in the Diagnosis of Aortic Intramural Hematoma

Objective：To study the value of spiral CT and its post-processing techniques in the diagnosis of aortic intramural hematoma（AIH）.Method：We retrospective analysed the CT features of AIH,spiral CT,and enhanced scans were performed in 12 patients with AIH,post-processing techniques included multi-planar reformation（MPR）,maximum intensity projection（MIP）,surface shaded display（SSD） in combination with axial images were used.Manifestations including the location,shape of AIH,existence of ulcer were analyzed.Result：12 cases showed crescent or encircling thickening（〉5mm） along the aortic wall without enhancement.4 cases showed inner layer shift as well as calcification.3 cases showed penetrating atherosclerotic aortic ulcer.The features of complication included pericardial effusion and pleural effusion（5cases）.Conclusion：Spiral CT in combination with reconstruction techniques can display the location,range of AIH and complication.Spiral CT can be used as the first choice modality for the diagnosis and follow-up of AIH.
