Most parents are hesitant to tell school about child's HIV
Abstract:The results of a study conducted by researchers at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health indicate that 53 percent of families did not inform schools about a child's HIV status. Among children between the ages of 5 and 10, two-thirds had not been told that they were HIV-positive. Although 99 percent of all children in the study were taking antiretroviral medicines, many arranged their medication schedules to avoid taking the drugs at school or in the presence of school personnel.
