Innate immunity pattern recognition:intracellular and extracellular pathways

Pathogen recognition by the innate immune system is commonly based on the identification of pathogen-associated molecular patterns by the pattern-recognition receptors. Depending on the nature of infection, the pattern-recognition receptors can recognize pathogens through extracelluar or intracellular pathway, then transduct the corresponding signals and activate the host defense responses to wipe out the invading pathogens.
