Cultivation of epithelial cells from human uterine ectocervix

Summary Epithelial cells of the uterine ectocervix can be cultured directly from fresh biopsy samples as explant cultures, free of contaminating fibroblasts. Alternatively, tissue samples can be dissociated with a combination of proteases to establish primary cultures of epithelial cells. Primary cultures can be subcultured at least three times resulting in up to 20 population doublings.
