Clinical Effects Analysis of 38 Cases with Mandible Communited Fracture

Objective：To summarize clinical effects in the management of communited fracture of the mandible. Methods：Thirty-eight cases were retrospectively reviewed.The treatment of choice consisted with open reduction and titanium plate internal fixation combined with arch bars for the intermaxillary traction.Results：All the cases underwent X-ray radiograph examination on the second day,one month and three months after operation.X-ray radiographs showed all cases had satisfactory reduction.Thirty-six cases healed with first intension while soft tissue wound infections appeared in 2 cases.6 patients needed a minimal adjustment for normal occlusion.All patients recovered normal mouth opening except one patient with temporomandibular joint injury resulted by severe facial scar and caused slight limitation of mouth opening.No titanium plate fracture or screw loosening occurred.Conclusion：Internal fixation plus intermaxillary traction offers an early,quick and successful functional recovery of mandibular comminuted fracture patients.
