Abstract: | Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and EUS-guided fine needle aspiration have become important tools in evaluation of patients who have various gastrointestinal and nongastrointestinal disorders, and are being increasingly utilized at many centers. With over 10 years of worldwide published clinical data, the collective experience suggests that EUS is a safe tool. There are various measures that may be undertaken to help minimize the risks. In light of ongoing advances in interventional techniques and recognition of new procedural indications, the safety of all types of procedures and efforts to minimize EUS-related complications need to be periodically reexamined. |
