Influential factors on hepatitis C infection among pregnant women: a hospital-based case-control study

Objective To study the risk factors of hepatitis C virus infection among pregnant women. Methods A 1∶2 matched case-control study was conducted among 227 pregnant women with anti-HCV positive at Gansu Provincial Maternal and Child-care Hospital from 2008 to 2018.SPSS 21.0 was used to analyze the risk factors with simple and multiple factors logistic regression. Results From 2008 to 2018, the anti-HCV positive rate among pregnant women in Gansu Provincial Maternity and Child-care Hospital was 0.33%(227/69 620).Data from the univariate logistic regression analysis showed that gravidity[COR(95%CI)=1.539(1.088-2.177)], transfusion history[COR(95%CI)=104.536(14.458-755.83)] and invasive instruments diagnosis history[COR(95%CI)=2.222(0.903-5.469)] were risk factors.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that transfusion history[OR(95%CI)=98.296(13.578-711.597)] was an independent risk factor of HCV infection among pregnant women. Conclusions Blood transfusion history is the main risk factor of HCV infection among pregnant women.
