Relationship between post-traumatic growth and emotional regulation strategies in patients undergoing post-burn scar plastic surgery during the period of rehabilitation

Objective To investigate the status quo of post-traumatic growth and emotional regulation strategies of patients undergoing post-burn scar plastic surgery at different time points during the period of rehabilitation,and explore the correlation between the two.Methods A total of 84 patients who underwent post-burn scar plastic surgery and were admitted to a 3A hospital from March 2018 to June 2019 were selected,and the Chinese-posttraumatic growth inventory(C-PTGI)and emotion regulation questionnaire(ERQ)were used for questionnaire surveys at the time of discharge,3 months after discharge,and 6 months after discharge to compare the survey results of patients at different time points,analyze the factors that affected the patient’s post-traumatic growth,and analyze the correlation between post-traumatic growth and emotional regulation strategies.Results The cognitive reappraisal of C-PTGI dimensions and ERQ scores showed a downward trend at different time points,and the expression inhibition dimension scores of ERQ scores showed an upward trend,and the differences between the groups were statistically significant(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the cognitive reappraisal was significantly positively correlated with the C-PTGI total score and scores in each dimension(r=0.228~0.560,P<0.05),expression inhibition was significantly negatively correlated with the C-PTGI total score,personal strength,and new possibility scores(r=-0.423~-0.228,P<0.05).Conclusions Patients undergoing post-burn scar plastic surgery had different levels of post-traumatic growth and different ways of emotion regulation strategies during different periods of recovery.Emotion regulation strategies were closely related to post-traumatic growth.In clinical practice,attention should be paid to the guidance of emotional regulation strategies for patients,and targeted nursing interventions should be used to improve the level of post-traumatic growth of patients.
