Abstract: | In terms of perioperative management, it is extremely difficult to perform a video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy for primary lung cancer in patients previously undergoing a contralateral pneumonectomy. We herein describe the successful video-assisted thoracic surgery lobectomy with systematic mediastinal lymph node dissection in a single-lung patient with clinical stage IA nonsmall cell lung cancer. Our experience indicates surgeons may consider the procedure if the following conditions are met: (1) satisfactory pulmonary function, (2) the selective bronchial blockade of the lobe to be resected, and (3) the effective retraction of the inflated lung. |
