Morphologic Characteristics And Evolution Of Senile Cataract In High Altitute Area

In this paper, 325 eyes of extracted senile cataract in the high altitute area were reviewed,the incidence of senile cataract was investigated in the people who live in different area of altitute,and 23 eyes of posterior capsule cataract were followed up for 3 years. The results shown that 49.2% of extracted senile cataract was nucleate cataract. The ineidcncc of senile cataract,especially nucleate and posterior capsule cataract,increases with altitute elevating. 60. 9% of posterior capsule cataract developed nucleate cataract during 3 years. The authors suggest that the high level of ultaviolet B irradiation in high altitute area may be the major cause of above changes.
