The therapeutic effect of enteral nutrition support on the quality of life of patients with gastric cancer

Objective To investigate the quality of life(QOL)and the clinical effect of early enteral nutrition on gastric cancer patients after radical gastrectomy.Methods 96 cases of gastric cancer patients were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group,48 cases in each group.The control group was received early enteral nutrition therapy after radical gastrectomy,while the observation group was treated with parenteral.The quality of life,nutritional status and postoperative recovery conditions between the 2 groups were observed and compared after treatment.Results In regard to the QLQ-30 global QOL,there were no significant different of the general health status between the control group and the observation group(P=0.227).The cognitive functioning,emotional functioning and fatigue of subjects of the observation group were significantly superior to subjects in the control group(P<0.05).However,the scores of nausea and vomiting and pain of subjects in the observation group were inferior to subjects in the control group(P<0.05).In regard to the QLQ STO22 global QOL,the scores of reflux and eating restrictions of subjects in the observation group were significantly superior to the control group(P<0.05),there was no statistically significant difference in other items(P>0.05).In the 7 th day of treatment,the levels of serum albumin and hemoglobin in the observation group were superior to the control group(P<0.05).After radical gastrectomy,the anal exhaust time in the observation group was former than the control group(P<0.05).Moreover,the length of stay in the observation group was shorter than the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Early nutrition in patients with gastric cancer treated with radical gastrectomy has better quality of life,better nutritive index and better postoperative recovery.
