Abstract: | We have observed that in vitro dicoumarol inhibits the uptake of d-glucose, d-fructose, d-galactose and d-2-deoxyglucose by the isolated cut diaphragm of the rat. Dicoumarol has no effect on the accumulation of d-3-oxymethylglucose in intact rat diaphragm, but enhances the accumulation of d-xylose, l-arabinose and α-methyl-d-glucose in intact rat diaphragm. Insulin, as well as anoxia, stimulates the uptake and accumulation of all the sugars tested, but cannot reverse the inhibition produced by dicoumarol in these systems. As an inhibitor, dicoumarol eliminates the effects of insulin and anoxia, while as a stimulus it makes the effects of dicoumarol, anoxia and insulin additive. |
