Clinical observation of PGE1 in the treatment of refractory heart failure

Objective To evaluation the clinical effecttiveness of prostaglandin E1(PGE1) in refractory heart failure(RHF).Methods Thirty patients with RHF who respond poorly to conventional therapy(diuretic,digitalis and vasodilator) for 5-7days were given PGE1 10mg daily by intravenous infusion for 10-14 days,with conventional therapy unchanged.Changes in clinical symtoms,signs(NYHA functional class),echocardiography,liver and renal function were observed after PGE1 began.Results The cardiac function of the patients significant improved.The overall response rate was 93.3%.No major untoward reactions were odserved.Conclusion PGE1 is safe and effective for RHF.
