Abstract: | The social perception ofheadache, everywhere at low levelsin industrialised countries, becomestotally absent in developing ones.Headache disorders came into theWorld Health Organization’s strategicpriorities after publication ofthe 2001 World Health Report.Among the leading causes of disability, migraine was ranked 19thfor adults of both sexes togetherand 12th for females. The GlobalCampaign (GC) to Reduce theBurden of Headache Worldwidewas planned by the major internationalheadache organizationstogether with WHO in order toidentify and remove those cultural, social and educational barriersrecognised as responsible factorsfor the inadequate treatment ofheadache disorders worldwide.Within the GC activities, the educationof the medical body will representsa central pillar. AnInternational Team for SpecialistEducation (ITSE) has been createdto train physicians from all over theworld through the acquisition of auniversity level Master Degree inHeadache Medicine. Once trainedas headache specialists, physicianswill become trainers, offering educationin this field to other healthcare providers in their own countries. In this way they will give lifeto a cultural chain raising awarenesslocally of headache, its burdenand its medical control. |
