Abstract: | AbstractParaquat is an organic heterocyclic herbicide that is widely used in agriculture, especially in Asian countries. The prevalence of paraquat poisonings has increased dramatically in the past two decades in China. Nearly all paraquat poisonings resulted from intentional or accidental oral administration leading to acute lung injury and, ultimately, acute respiratory distress syndrome. The mortality rate has been reported to be greater than 90%. However, the exact toxic mechanism remains unclear. Herein, we reviewed and summarized the most recent publications related to the molecular mechanisms of paraquat-induced acute lung injury. |
