Examination of vibration perception in diagnosing diabetic neuropathy

Vibration perception thresholds test(VPT) is a simple,non-invasive and repeatable test,used comprehensively in diagnosing diabetic neuropathy.It is more sensitive than other diagnostic methods,such as symptoms,signs and Semmes-Weinstein monofilament examinations.This article reviews the clinical significance of VPT and compares this diagnostic technique with others.Some factors which influence the VPT diagnosis are introduced,including age,local vibrating pressure and the experience of the examiners.
