Abstract: | Three saponins, oleanolic acid-28- O -ß-D-glucopyranoside (1), chikusetsusaponin V (2), and 3- O -ß-D-glucopyranosyl-oleanolic acid-28- O -ß-D-glucopyranoside (3) were isolated from the roots of Achyranthes bidentata Blume (Amaranthaceae). No activity was shown in the granulocyte phagocytosis test nor in the test of the potentiation of the cytotoxicity of cisplatin in human colon cancer cells. This is the first report of compounds 1, 2 and 3 isolated from Achyranthes species. Furthermore, the NMR data of 2 completed the partially published data. |
