Abstract: | Sera from patients with bullous pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris and other bullous conditions have been tested for auto-antibodies by the indirect immunofluorescence (IIF) method. Positive confirmation of the initial diagnosis was obtained in approximately 75% of both pemphigus and pemphigoid cases. It is suggested that the major source of error in the IIF test lies in the existence of ‘pemphigus-like antibodies’; and clinically, in diagnosing some cases of dermatitis herpetiformis as pemphigoid. |
