Ultrasound in diagnosis of ovarian clear cell carcinoma

Objective: To explore the clinical value of preoperative ultrasound in the diagnosis of ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC). Methods: The data of 14 patients with OCCC confirmed by pathology were retrospectively analyzed. All the patients underwent ultrasound before surgery. Clinical and imaging features of OCCC were studied. Results The lesions of OCCC located in bilateral ovary of 3 cases and in unilateral ovary of 11 cases. The lesions were shown as quasi-circular or quasi-elliptic mass with clear boundaries and capsule by ultrasonography. Solid lesions were found in 1 case, predominant solid lesions in 6 cases, and predominant cystic lesions in 7 cases, of which 2 cases were multilocular. The solid components were nodular protruding into the cysts, and the cystic parts were mostly anechoic, among which 3 cases were found with dense fine spots. The tumor vasculature was observed by color Doppler ultrasonography, with 2 points in 7 cases, 3 points in 4 cases, and 4 points in 3 cases. Four patients had pelvic endometriosis confirmed histologically. The presence of ascites was noted in 6 cases. The original ultrasound examiner suggested a diagnosis of benign lesions in 4 cases, borderline ovarian tumor in 1 case and malignant tumors in 9 cases. Conclusions: OCCC is usually unilateral, mostly cystic type with unilocular. The boundary of the lesion is clear and the solid components are protruding into the cyst in various forms. Ultrasonography findings of OCCC patients have certain characteristics, but lack obvious specificity. The preoperative diagnostic accuracy can be improved by combining clinical history and laboratory examination data. © 2021, The Second Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University..
