The efficacy comparison of two kinds of internal fixation for treatment of distal radius fracture with ulnar styloid base fractures

Objective To compare the effect of distal radius volar locking plate plus ulnar styloid single cortical bone screw fixation and simple distal radius volar locking plate fixation for treatment of distal radius fractures with ulnar styloid base fracture.Methods The 73 cases of distal radius fractures with ulnar styloid base fractures were randomly divided into obseron group(38 cases were performed with volar locking plate of distal radius combined with single ulnar styloid cortical bone screw)and control group(35 cases were only fixed with volar locking plate of distal radius),according to different treatment methods.The distal radius volar tilt,ulnar deviation,radial height were measured.The clinical effect was evaluated by Dienst function score criterion at 4 months after operation.At the last follow-up,wrist range of motion was used to evaluate the recovery of wrist function.Results All patients were followed up for 9~16 months.There were no significant differences in distal radius volar tilt,ulnar deviation and radial height between the two groups(P>0.05);At 4 months after operation,the excellent-good rate of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group,adopting the Dienst function score criterion(P<0.05).The wrist joint function of the two groups recovered well at the last follow-up.Conclusions Compared with simple distal radius volar locking plate fixation,the distal radius volar plate combined with single ulnar styloid cortical bone screw fixation for treating distal radius fractures with ulnar styloid base fracture is more beneficial to improve the clinical symptoms of the patients,it′s better for restoring wrist stability.
