Clinical efficacy of Akin osteotomy combined with the first matatarsal osteotomy for treatment of hallux valgus

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of Akin osteotomy combined with the first matatarsal osteotomy for treatment of hallux valgus.Methods The 27 cases(27 feet)with halluv valgus were treated by Akin osteotomy combined with the first matatarsal osteotomy:Akin osteotomy with Chevron osteotomy of 19 cases,Akin osteotomy with Scarf osteotomy of 6 cases,Akin osteotomy with Juvara osteotomy of 2 cases.The 1st,2nd intermetatarsal angle(IMA)and hallux valgus angle(HVA)were measured at the preoperation and final follow-up.The therapeutic effect was assessed with AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score at the last follow-up.Results All cases were followed up for 10~16 months.The osteotomy sites were all healed,and the pain of the forefoot was significantly relieved than that before the operation,without the complications such as hallux valgus recurrence and metastatic metatarsalgia.At the last follow-up,HVA and IMA were significantly reduced than the preoperation,and AOFAS ankle-hindfoot score was significantly increased than the preoperation,there were statistical differences(P<0.001).Conclusions Akin osteotomy combined with the first matatarsal osteotomy in the treatment of hallux valgus can obtain better correction effect of the deformity,decrease the recurrence rate of hallux valgus,with the satisfied short-term clinical outcomes.
