Abstract: | Seventeen schizotypal patients were treated with low doses of Haloperidol in a single-blind trial. Improvement was noted on overall schizotypal symptoms as assessed on the Schedule for Interviewing Borderlines (SIB) with positive change particularly reflected on the scales measuring ldeas of Reference, Odd Communication and Social Isolation. Ratings on the Global Assessment Scale (GAS) indicated overall clinical improvement. Complaints of side effects, particularly sedation were extensive and contributed to a 50% dropout rate. Though the study indicates that low dose Haloperidol may be useful for some schizotypal personalities, it also underscores the serious compliance problems in a group of patients highly sensitive to side effects. |
