The Reliability and Validity of Chinese Version of School Anxiety Scale Developed by Araki Noriyuki

Abstract:Objectives To explore the reliability and validity of Chinese version of School Anxiety Scale developed by Araki Noriyuki,Ph. D and the characteristics of junior middle school students' school anxiety. Methods A total of 1349 junior middle school students in Jiangsu Province were investigated with the scale. All data had been analyzed by use of SPSSll. 5 for windows and AMOS 4.0. Results ①A total of 7 factors were extracted through the scale and explained 49.02% of the variance. The results showed satisfactory internal consistency (Cronbach a= 0. 903) and construction validity (x2/df〈3,RMSEA〈0.08,NFI,NN- FI, RFI, CFI〉 0. 90). ②Totally, Junior middle schools in China were mainly concentrated in mild anxiety (31. 7%), moderate (36.1%),and emphasis (21.9% ) in three areas. ③There were significant gender differences in total score of anxiety (t =-2. 049,P = 0. 041) ,classroom performance anxiety(t=-1. 988,P= 0. 047) ,classmates anxiety (t=2. 636,P= 0. 008,P〈0.05) ,the score of anxiety in grade 1 junior middle school students was the highest(xz=45. 944,P〈0. 01). Conclusion The Chinese version of the School Anxiety Scale has satisfactory reliability and validity.
