Related Study on Fatigue and Mental Health in Ship Personnel

Objective To study the situation of fatigue and its relationship with mental health in ship personnel.Methods A total of 558 ship personnel were evaluated by Fatigue Assessment Instument（FAI） and Symptom Checklist 90（SCL-90）,Data were analyzed with SPSS 15.0.Results The severity of fatigue in ship personnel had no significant difference between the healthy group,but was significantly lower than the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome（CFS） group（t=-38.16,P0.01）;there was significant difference among officers,noncommissioned officers,soldiers in the severity of fatigue（F=5.48,P0.01）,situation-specificity（F=10.89,P0.01） and psychological consequences（F=8.47,P0.01） of FAI;married group of ship personnel was significantly greater than unmarried group in the severity of fatigue（t=-2.56,P0.05）;there was not more serious psychological consequences due to fatigue in divers compared to other professional（F=-38.16,P0.01）;the severity,situation-specificity and psychological consequences of FAI were positively correlated with mental health in ship personnel;it was showed in the multiple correlation regression analysis that somatization,hostility and obsessive-compulsive disorder were main factors that affected fatigue of ship personnel.Conclusion Conditions and characteristics of fatigue are closely correlated with mental health in ship personnel.
