Abstract:Traumatic brain injury(TBI)causes severe nerve injury and leads to a great burden to society and individuals.However,there is still a lack of effective neuroprotective treatments.At this time,the therapeutic effect of cardiolipin(CL),a mitochondria-specific lipid,on TBI has shown promise in basic studies.This review focuses on the research progress of CL in neuronal apoptosis and mitochondrial autophagy,focusing on the mechanism of CL externalization mediated mitochondrial autophagy and its role in brain injury.Further study of CL externalization,whether to restore normal mitochondrial function or promote mitochondria-induced apoptosis,is a potential strategy to improve treatment outcomes for TBI.
