Effects of nasal endoscopy Messerklinger middle turbinoplasty on nasal cavity and olfactory function in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps

Objective To investigate the effect of nasal endoscopic Messerklinger middle turbinoplasty on nasal cavity and olfactory function in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis and nasal polyps(CRSwNP). Methods 48 cases CRSwNP patients who underwent partial turbinate resection in our hospital from March 2019 to February 2020 were selected as the control group, and 49 cases CRSwNP patients who underwent nasal endoscopic Messerklinger middle turbinate plasty in the same period were selected as the observation group. The nasal function and olfactory function between the two groups were compared after 3 months. Results Before surgery, there was no statistically significant difference in nasal function indexes between the two groups;3 months after operation, the DCAN and nasal airway resistance of the two groups decreased, while the NCV and NMCA indexes increased, and DCAN and nasal airway resistance in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, and NCV and nmca in the observation group were higher than those in the control group(P<0.05). Before operation, there was no significant difference in the scores of olfactory function between the two groups;after 3 months, the olfactory scores of the two groups decreased, and the observation group was lower than the control group(P<0.05). Conclusion Endoscopic Messerklinger middle turbinate plasty for CRSwNP patients can promote the rapid recovery of nasal cavity and olfactory function, and the effect is significant.
