Study on the application of geriatric comprehensive assessment in preventing falls in elderly people

Objective To explore the application effect of geriatric comprehensive assessment(CGA)in preventing falls in the elderly.Methods 120 elderly patients admitted to our hospital from January 2018 to January 2019 were selected,including 91 males and 29 females.They were randomly divided into the conventional group and the CGA group.60 patients in the CGA group were 80 ~97 years old with an average age of(87.3 ± 4.5)years,while 60 patients in the conventional group were 80 ~ 95 years old with an average age of(86.8 ± 3.9)years.STRATIFY scale was applied to assess the risk of falls in the conventional group and the conventional treatment was carried out.CGA,based on the control group,initially screened the elderly according to the content and methods of comprehensive evaluation.The risk and incidence of falls in the two groups were compared after 6 months observation.Results after 6 months of comprehensive intervention,the risk score of falls in the CGA group was significantly lower than that in the conventional group(P < 0.01);the detection rate of high-risk falls in the CGA group(30.0%)decreased,and the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05)compared with the conventional group(48.3%).The total incidence of falls within six months was9.2%(11/120),and the incidence of falls in the CGA group(3.3%)was lower than that in the conventional group(15.0%),and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant(P < 0.05).Conclusion comprehensive assessment of the elderly can effectively reduce the risk and incidence of falls.
