Reliability and Validity Testing of the Chinese Version of Decision Self-Efficacy Scale among Patients with Primary Liver Cancer for Treatment Decision-Making

Objective To cross-culturally adapt the original English version of Decision Self-Efficacy Scale,and test the reliability and validity of the Chinese version scale in the decision-making process of patients with primary liver cancer(PLC),so as to evaluate the feasibility of the Chinese version scale in cancer patients’treatement decision-making in China.Methods The English version of Decision Self-Efficacy Scale was translated into Chinese,back translated and cross-culturally adapted according to the Brislin’s principles.The reliability and validity of the Chinese version scale were tested among a population of 150 PLC inpatients,who were selected using convenient sampling.Results The Chinese version of Decision Self-Efficacy Scale consisted of 11 items.One common factor was extracted using factor analysis,with the cumulative contribution rate to be 55.073%.The content validity index of the Chinese version scale was 0.966.The Cronbach’sαcoefficient was 0.918 and the Guttmann split-half reliability coefficient was 0.876.The correlation coefficients between the scores of each item and the total score were 0.627-0.796(all P<0.01).Confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model fit of the Chinese version scale was good.Conclusions The Chinese version of Decision Self-Efficacy Scale has good reliability and validity.It can be used as an effective tool to evaluate the level of self-efficacy in treatment decision-making among targeted population in China.
