Abstract:[Abstract] Objective: To probe into the changes of serum interleukin-17 (IL-17) levels and effects of vitamin A in children with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Methods: Totally 54 children with T1DM were extracted to be divided into the non-intervention group (n=29) and the vitamin A intervention group (n=25). Both groups were given routine comprehensive treatment of diabetes, and the children in vitamin A intervention group received a daily dose of 20 000 IU vitamin A, the serum was respectively stored at -80 °C before intervention and 3 months after intervention, and the serum IL-17 and vitamin A levels were measured. The results were compared with those of 28 healthy children who underwent physical examination in the department of child health during the same period. Results: The IL-17 levels in the non-intervention group and the vitamin A intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.01), and the serum vitamin A levels were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.01). The serum IL-17 levels in vitamin A intervention group after 3 months of intervention were significantly lower than those before intervention (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in serum IL-17 levels in non-intervention group before and after treatment (t=1.42, P>0.05). Conclusion: The serum IL-17 levels increased significantly in children with T1DM, and vitamin A intervention can reduce the serum IL-17 levels in children with T1DM.
