| Abstract: | We report herein a rare case of primary esophageal malignant melanoma in a 49-year-old Japanese woman who presented with a 3-week history of dysphagia. Esophagogram and esophagoscopy demonstrated a polypoid tumor in the upper to mid-thoracic portion of the esophagus, and a radical subtotal esophagectomy was performed through a right thoracotomy. Histological and immunohistochemical studies proved this tumor to be a primary esophageal malignant melanoma. She received no postoperative adjuvant therapy and no signs of recurrence have been clinically observed for the 22 months since her operation. |
