Research progress on weight-loss targets and drugs

Obesity is a state characterized by excessive accumulation of body fat, which is closely related to other metabolic diseases. The metabolic dysfunction caused by energy intake overweighing energy expenditure is the main cause of obesity. Now obesity has become a social issue worldwide, with its incidence increasing year by year. However, the approved weight loss drugs is extremely limited and far insufficient to meet the market demand. In recent years, with the in-depth research on the physiological and pathological mechanisms of obesity, a series of innovative drugs with novel targets have been found, with promising prospects for body weight control. This review summarizes latest researches on weight loss targets and weight loss drugs, and provides an outlook on the future trends of weight loss drug development.
