Several factors, such as the material and profile of the prosthesis transmucosal area, the fit of implant-abutment interface, the configuration and hygiene access design of the prosthesis, and the way of restoration retention, may obstruct plaque control around the implant and increase the risks of peri-implantitis. Therefore, proper prosthetic design may reduce or prevent the prevalence of peri-implantitis.
