Observation on the Efficacy of Recombinant Human Erythropoietin for the Treatment of 69 Patients with Congestive Heart Failure

[Objective] To explore the mechanism and the role of recombinant human erythropoietin（rh EPO） for the treatment of congestive heart fai[ure（CHF）. [Methods] A total of 135 CHF patients in our hospital from January 2009 to December 2010 were randomly divided into observation group（ n = 69） and control group（ n =66）. The control group was given routine therapy of heart failure and the observation group was additionally treated with rh-EPO based on the routine therapy. The results of heart color Doppler ultrasound examination, brain natriuretic peptide（BNP） level, hemoglobin level and clinical efficacy were compared be tween two groups before and after treatment. [Results] The overall effective rate in observation group and control group were 87% and 65%, respectively, and there was significant difference between two groups（ P 〈0.05）. After treatment, left ventricular ejection fraction（LVEF）, 6-minute walking test（6-MWT） and Hb in observation group significantly increased, and left ventricular end-diastole inner diameter and BNP level ob- viously decreased, and anemia was markedly ameliorated, and there were significant differences between before and after treatment（ P 〈0.05）, and there were also significant differences between observation group and control group（ P 〈0.05）. [Conclusion] The rh EPO for the treatment of CHF can improve patients＇ heart function obviously.
