Efficacy of local resection on early stage of lower rectal carcinoma: Report of 27 cases

Objective To evaluate the efficacy of local resection on early stage of lower rectal carcinoma. Methods The clinical data from 27 patients with early stage of lower rectal carcinoma, ad- mitted during the period from Jan. 2001 to Dec. 2005, were retrospectively analyzed. Results Among these patients, 5 were fallen into stage Tis, 18 into stage T1, and 4 into stage T2. No perioperative deaths occurred and the incidence of complication was 7. 4 % （2/27）. The average period of follow-up was 6. 8 years,the 5-year recurrent rate was 14. 8 % and the overall 5-year survival rate was 88. 9 % （24/27）. Conclusion Lower complications and the preservation of anus are advantages of local resec- tion, and the satisfied efficacy may be achieved as long as we consider indications carefully.
