Characteristics of the elderly patients having accepted cardiopulmonary resuscitation in the emergency department

Objective To discuss and study the characteristics of etiological factors and treatment in elderly patients who came to emergency department for cardiopulmonary resuscitation Methods Retrospective and control study was carlied out between the older and non-older patients, or between the different age groups in elderly patients. Results In some etiological factor, the difference was obvious between elderly patients and non-older patients. During the cardiopulmonary resuscitation on elderly patients, the adult recommended dosage of epinephrine and biphasic waveform defibrillation were preferred. With the age increasing, the rate of spontaneous circulation restoration and the survival rate showed obvious downtrend. Between the different age segment, the patients receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation due to MODS were aged mainly over 80 years. Conclusions The etiological factor and treatment of elderly patients receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation had specific characteristics compared with non-old patients.
