Clinical Efficacy Analysis of Manipulative Reduction Integrated Expandable Intramedullary Nails in the Treatment of Tibia Fractures

Objective：To investigate the clinical efficacy and complication in the treatment oftibial shaft fracture with manipulative reduction integrated expandable intramedullary nails.Method：From February 2005 to August 2006, 36 cases of tibia fracture were treated with expandable intramedullary nail.Active and passive motion of ankle joint without weight-bearing was allowed after operation.Result：All patients were followed up for 5-16 months after operation （average 9 months）.All patients had bony union within 7-30 weeks, with the average time of bone union being 13 weeks.3 cases were found delay union.5 cases were found limbs shorten.Screw breakage,bone marrow cavity infection,fat embolism,anchylosis and refracatre were not found in the series.Conclusion：The treatment with manipulative reduction integrated expandable intramedullary nails can reduce operative time and blood loss and accelerate bone healing, so this is an ideal therapy as long as appropriate indication being selected and prevent complication.
