Abstract:Human microorganisms include bacteria, viruses and fungi that colonize the human body. These microbial communities are critical to the maintenance of homeostasis in the human body, and disorder of homeostasis often leads to disease. Recent studies have shown that the changes in some microbial communities in the human body, especially the intestinal flora, are closely related to the onset of senile macular degeneration (SMD). SMD, whose incidence rate increases with age, can lead to reduced central vision, distorted vision, and permanent vision damage if left untreated. The involvement of human microorganisms in SMD provides a new idea for the clinical treatment of SMD, and also makes the microbial community a potential research object for the treatment of SMD.
Keywords:human microorganism   senile macular degeneration   potential therapeutic targets
