| Abstract: | In 35 cases of cesarean section, 500 ml of balanced salt solution was infused intraveuously 10 min prior to the delivery of fetus. 5g and 10g of dextrose were give in addition in 10 and 15 cases respectively, the remaining 10 cases as control. Maternal venous blood and fetal umbilical blood samples were collected for estimation of blood glucose and insulin concentration. Results showed both glucose and insulin concentration rose markedly in those receiving 10g of dextrose as compared with the control. Author suggested that 5g of dextrose were more than enough for cesarean section patients. |
