锌是人体必需的微量元素之一，在机体有广泛而重要的生理功能：参与细胞的各种活动，影响细胞增殖、分化，维持正常的细胞周期；参与体内各种新陈代谢过程，起着催化、活性调节及稳定结构等作用；参与核酸、蛋白质的代谢。尤其在生殖和生长发育过程中起重要作用。它在体内的作用具有很强的专一性，既不可缺少，也不能被其它任何元素完全取代。锌缺乏会导致多种疾病。
