摘    要:The main characteristics of malignant tumors are invasive growth and the tendency to metastasis. In the process of invasive growth, one of the crucial steps is the detachment of intercellular junctions of tumor cells. Various cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) play an important role in this process. Among the most studied CAMs are the integrins, the selectins, the immunoglobin superfamily, and the cadherins. The cadherins, which are calcium dependent homotypic glycoproteins, form dimeric zipper…

Abstract:Objective: To investigate the expression of p120ctn in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and its relationshipwith clinicopathological factors and prognosis. Methods: p120ctn expression was tested by immunohistochemistryfor 80 tumors from patients with non-small-cell lung cancer. Correlations were investigated between p120ctnimmunostaining in primary tumors and clinicopathological characteristics and survival. Results: Abnormal expression of p120ctn was found in 68/80(85%) tumors in which 43cases had cytoplasmic staining. Abnormal staining ofp120ctn was related with high TNM stage (P=0.003) andnodal metastasis (P=0.024). However, there was nocorrelation between altered expression with poordifferentiation and histological type. According toKaplan-Meier survival estimate, the expression of p120ctn was related to the poor survival (P=0.015) of patients. ACox regression analysis revealed that p120ctn expressiowas a significant independent factor in the prediction ofsurvival for patients with non-small-cell lung cancer(P=0.008). Conclusion: altered expression of p120ctn wasfound in non-small-cell lung cancers and was correlated with lymph node metastasis and prognosis. From a practical point of view, the expression of p120ctn can be of prognostic value for patients with non-small-cell lung cancer.
