Abstract:Objective The aim of this study was to explore the correlation between smoking status and HbA1c and insulin in the adults. Methods The residents aged 18 years old and above living in Xuzhou city were sampled by the multi-stage stratified random cluster sampling. The questionnaire interview, physical examination and laboratory tests were carried out on the participants. Multiple linear regression model was used for the analysis of correlation between smoking status and level of HbA1c and insulin. Results The comparison of HbA1c levels showed that the passive smoking group and the no smoking without passive smoking group had lower levels of HbA1c than that of the current smoking group(P<0.01). The ex-smoking group, the passive smoking group and the no smoking without passive smoking group had higher insulin levels two hours after 75g OGTT than the current smoking group(P<0.01). Conclusion Current smoking and passive smoking may be associated with HbA1c abnormalities.
Keywords:Smoking  Passive smoking  HbA1c
