Abstract: | Summary. This study compared the incidence of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) in 12 industrialised countries during the 1980s with that of other known causes of infant mortality using WHO demographic data. Regression analysis showed a statistically significant negative relationship between registered SIDS rate and infant mortality rate, as a result of perinatal conditions. The results are discussed, and possible explanations are suggested. |
