Related factors and preventive strategies for recurrent condyloma acuminatum

Condyloma acuminatum (CA), which primarily occurs in genital and perianal areas, is a benign proliferative disease as well as a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). There are many treatments for CA, but none of them can prevent the recurrence of CA. The high recurrence of CA is an intractable problem. Many factors may influence the recurrence of CA, such as subclinical or latent papillomaviral infection, hypoimmunity, risk sexual behaviors, other complicated STDs, viral load of HPV, redundant prepuce, and so on. Therefore, intensive study of recurrence-related factors will be helpful to the development of preventive strategies and decrease of recurrence of CA.
