| Abstract: | AIM:The purpose of this study was to exami ne the association between sleep quality and suicidality in major dep ressive patients.METHOD:124patients with CCMD-2-R major depression were assessed with the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI )and the schedule for affective disorders and schizophre-nia(SADS)suicide subscale as well as the Hamilton depression scale(HAMD).RESULTS:Suicidal depressive patients had significantly higher scores of subjective sleep quality,sleep latency,sleep duration,habi tual sleep efficiency and PSQI global scores th an nonsuicidal patients.Significa nt corre-lations were found between the SADS s uicide subscale scores and the measu res of PSQI.CONCLUSION:An association exists between poor s ubjective sleep quality and suicidal behavior in patients with major depression.Seroto nergic dysregulation may play a key role in u nderlying mechanisms of the associa tion. |
