Investigation of serum adiponectin, resistin and insulin resistance levels in the obese people

Objective To investigate the levels of serum adiponectin,resistin and insulin resistance levels of the obese people in Guangzhou area.Methods The body mass index（BMI）,waist line,hip circumference,fasting insulin,fasting glucose,blood lipids,adiponectin and resistin levels were determined in 106 obese subjects and 107 healthy controls respectively,and the homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance index（HOMA-IRI） was calculated.Results There was statistical significance of BMI,body fat percentage（BF）,HOMA-IRI,resistin,adiponectin,total cholesterol（TC） and apolipoprotein B（apo B） between the obese subjects and the healthy controls（P〈0.01,P〈0.05）.There was positive correlation between adiponectin and resistin with BMI,BF and HOMA-IRI [adiponectin： coefficient correlation（r）=0.439（P〈0.01）,r=0.236（P〈0.01）,r=0.398（P〈0.01）;resistin： r=0.296（P〈0.01）,r=0.175（P〈0.05）,r=0.827（P〈0.01）].There was positive correlation between resistin and waist-hip-ratio（WHR）（r=0.169,P〈0.05）.Conclusions Adiponectin may predict the BMI and HOMA-IRI,and resistin can predict BMI.The change of adiponectin and resistin levels may lead to obesity and insulin resistance,and adiponectin and resistin have some influence on the occurrence and development of diabetes mellitus.
