Research progress on the mechanism of osteoporosis treated by TCM based on brain theory

Osteoporosis is a chronic disease with high incidence rate in China. The clinical symptoms are not obvious at the beginning of the disease. With the loss of bone, patients will gradually suffer from pain, hunchback, and impaired balance function, which will seriously affect the quality of life of the elderly. The first-line anti osteoporosis drugs recommended by the latest guidelines, such as bisphosphonates and estrogens, have definite curative effect on delaying bone loss, but the short-term effect of improving symptoms of osteoporosis patients is not obvious. The multi-target effect of traditional Chinese medicine therapy accords with the characteristics of osteoporosis, and has unique advantages in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis. Based on the analysis of TCM etiology and pathogenesis of osteoporosis, as well as the discussion of visceral state theory and meridians attribution, the researchers found that the high-level brain function is closely related to osteoporosis. This paper will make a preliminary summary of TCM research results in this respect.
