Abstract: | Objective:To evaluatetheeffectof earlyandshort-termuseof potentantibioticsfollowingextensivesevere burninjury.Methods:Seventeenseverelyburnedpatientshospitalizedin thesameperiod(Nov.,1998to Oct.,2000)were dividedinto2groups.PatientsinGroup1(n=9)receivedearlytreatmentwithimipenumandamikacinfor5d,andthe sametreatmentin Group2(n=8)was discontinueduntilday15postburn.Thesurvivalrate,bloodbacterialculture,body temperatureand whitebloodcellandplateletcountswerecomparedbetweenthe2groups.Results:Allthe17patients survivedandallbloodbacterialcultureswerenegative.No significantdifferenceof bodytemperatureandwhitebloodcell andplateletcountsbetweenthe2groupswasobserved(P>0.05).Conclusion:Earlyuseof high-potencyantibioticsatshort treatmentcourseafterextensivesevereburniseffectiveto preventinfectionandreducethecost. |
